The back of the property fell away sharply enough that the lawn was washing downhill every spring. Mowing it was awkward and using it was out of the question.
We took the slope in three tiers of High Format Rosetta Outcropping, each built on compacted stone with drainage aggregate and filter fabric behind the face, so water moves through the wall instead of pushing against it. Taking the height in stages keeps each wall in proportion and turns what was one unusable bank into level ground.
The terraces between the walls were graded flat and planted, so the hillside now holds itself, sheds water where we want it to go, and gives the family usable yard where there was a slope they avoided.
